Barbara Thornhill Callaghan

Barbara Thornhill Callaghan of Holmes Beach, Fla., passed away peacefully Feb. 3, 2015. 

She was born Sept. 26, 1937, in Greenport to Winifred J. and Harold “Major” Thornhill Sr. She is survived by her husband, Joseph F. Callaghan, their daughter, Megan (Lucas) Haney; and her granddaughter, Cassidy Jo Haney. Barbara is also survived by her siblings, Frank (Edy) Thornhill, Anne Felli, and Harold “Harry” (Joan) Thornhill Jr.

Barbara graduated from Greenport High School and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from State University of New York at Albany. She taught business classes at North Babylon High School and retired as a teaching professor from at Suffolk County Community College business division. Barbara received recognition from SUNY with a Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.

An informal memorial reception will be held Saturday, May 9, from 1 to 4 p.m., at Terryville Fire Department, 19 Jayne Blvd., Port Jefferson Station. Those attending are asked to park at the rear (west side) of the station house and enter the station hall from the south entrance.
