Westbound traffic has been closed Friday morning on Sound Avenue in Mattituck after a box truck swerved to avoid a deer and struck multiple electrical poles near Kirkup Lane.
The right side of the truck was ripped off after it scraped one pole and then crashed into another on the westbound side of Sound Avenue around 6 a.m.
The two men in the vehicle were not injured, Southold police said.
The westbound lane of Sound Avenue remained closed around 11 a.m. as PSEG and Verizon service members repaired power lines. Drivers headed westbound on Route 48 were being redirected onto Cox Neck Road. The eastbound lane remained open.
