Fire at Goldberg’s Famous Bagels temporarily closes Mattituck Plaza businesses

A fire in a storage room at Goldberg’s Famous Bagels in Mattituck Plaza on Monday temporarily closed multiple businesses.

Southold police said the fire started around noon when a small piece of cardboard caught fire in a rear storage room and spread to a shelving unit containing other boxes and plastic cups.

The building’s sprinkler system extinguished the fire, according to officials. Mattituck, Cutchogue and Jamesport fire departments responded to the scene.

Police said the fire was determined to be accidental.

Vintage Mattituck Wine and Liquor, located next door to the bagel shop, was forced to close after smoke and water entered the storefront, officials said.
