Southold’s Town Highway Department’s work came as Southold police dealt with scattered storm-related calls throughout the town. Police Chief Steven Grattan said Saturday afternoon that there were some isolated power outages, along with downed trees and wires and partial road closures, but no major roadways were closed.
Minor flooding was also reported, including on Skunk Lane, while a tree struck a home on Hippodrome Drive, causing minor structural damage. The residents were away on vacation at the time, and a town building inspector and PSEG were notified, Mr. Grattan said.
According to Highway Department Superintendent Dan Goodwin, a second wave of high tide will hit the coasts of Southold at midnight Saturday. Wind speeds will die down at around 6 p.m., but gusts will still occur for the next 24 hours.
