A Southold man called police around 12:49 p.m. last Tuesday to report a mulch fire in his neighbor’s backyard. Police, along with members of the local fire department, responded and extinguished the fire. The neighbor told police that the homeowner, a Southold man, frequently has fires in his backyard and that attempts to contact him are always unsuccessful. The neighbor left a voicemail on the homeowner’s phone notifying him of the incident, as he was not home. Police advised the neighbor to reach out again if a future incident occurs.

A Greenport man was arrested for trespassing Monday, according to Southold Town police.

An officer on patrol observed Robert Lehmann, 66, on Claudio’s property, who had been warned previously he is not allowed there, police said. He was arrested around 5:30 a.m., was unable to make $100 bail and was held for arraignment, police said. READ

Darwin Depaz Javier, 25, of Calverton was arrested on Saturday by Riverhead Town police during a traffic stop, according to Southold Town police. He had an active arrest warrant for aggravated unlicensed operation, a misdemeanor, issued by Southold Town Justice Court, police said. Riverhead officers transferred custody to Southold, officials said. READ

A Greenport man reported receiving text messages from someone claiming to be immigration last Tuesday, police said. He then got a phone call saying he needed to pay $2,859.12 or he would be deported, so he sent the money via wire transfer, police said. Officers told him it was a scam and not to send any more money, the report states. READ
