Southold Town police reported 54 incidents during the week from Oct. 19 to Oct. 26, including the following:

  • Two men were rescued from a sinking kayak near the eastern end of Truman’s Beach in Orient Oct. 24. A passing boat picked them up before Orient firefighters transferred them to a rescue vessel and brought them ashore. Neither man reported injuries, and both declined medical attention. A police marine unit towed the kayak back to shore.
  • Vincent Pomara, 53, whose hometown was not listed in the police report, was arrested for drunken driving following a crash on Main Road in Southold at about 1:30 a.m. Oct. 25. Police said Mr. Pomara admitted drinking alcohol and had bloodshot, glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol on his breath. Field sobriety tests were not conducted because of his injuries. Southold Fire Department transported him to Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital for evaluation. He was issued an appearance ticket for Southold Town Justice Court on Oct. 29.
  • A Southold woman reported no injuries after her vehicle caught fire on Main Road Oct. 19. She told police she was driving west when she noticed smoke coming from the hood. After pulling over to investigate, she saw the vehicle engulfed in flames. Southold firefighters extinguished the fire, and the vehicle was towed.
  • Police received multiple reports of a tractor-trailer pulling down telephone wires in Mattituck at about 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22. Officers found wires blocking Deep Hole Drive and Blossom Drive. A resident also reported tire marks on his lawn, two overturned boulders and broken tree branches. The truck was gone when officers arrived. Optimum was notified, and cones were placed in the area.
  • A possible burglary was reported at a Baillie Beach Road residence in Mattituck Oct. 23. Police said the house had been left unlocked and a basement door appeared to have been kicked in. Several ceiling tiles also appeared to have been taken down but were not damaged. Nothing was reported missing. A detective responded, and the investigation remained open.
  • A member of the Southold Democratic Committee reported Oct. 24 that seven or eight campaign signs he had placed along Main Road the previous evening were missing and had been replaced with about 15 Republican signs. Nearby surveillance cameras did not cover the location, and police reported no further investigative leads. The report did not identify who removed the signs.
  • A vehicle’s rear driver’s-side window was reported broken on Jackson Landing in Mattituck Oct. 25. According to the report, the damage occurred sometime after 3 p.m. the previous day while the vehicle was parked on the street. Nothing was believed stolen, and a neighbor told police she had not seen or heard anything.
  • Officers responding to a noise complaint in Cutchogue Oct. 24 could hear music from Meadowlark inside a nearby resident’s home. The venue’s manager agreed to lower the volume. Police said no certified technician was on duty to obtain a decibel reading.
  • A reported intruder at a Green Hill Lane property in Greenport West turned out to be a pool-company employee. The homeowner called police late Oct. 23 after seeing someone on surveillance footage wearing a black hoodie and carrying a flashlight and what appeared to be a knife. Officers searched the property and surrounding area with a police dog and drone but found no one. The homeowner contacted police the next day to say the person had come to shut off the water.
  • Officers investigating a report of screaming at a Ruch Lane home in Southold Oct. 19 learned that the resident had been looking for his dog and calling its name. The man said he was fine, and police found no signs of distress.
