Fire on B&B grounds leaves one injured

One person suffered a minor injury during a fire that started in a rear storage shed and workshop before spreading to one of the rooms at Andrew’s Legacy Bed and Breakfast on Route 25 in Cutchogue just before 3 a.m. Sunday .
Bed and breakfast guests escaped with the help of area firefighters, police said. The injured person, who fell while being evacuated, was taken by ambulance to Eastern Long Island Hospital and treated and released.
The Cutchogue Fire Department, with assistance from the Mattituck and Southold departments  had the fire under control by about 3:15 a.m., police said. Propane tanks and other flammable materials caused the blaze to spread rapidly and reach the rear of a first floor occupied room, according to the Cutchogue FD. Firefighters extinguished the blaze before it could spread throughout the building. In all 90 volunteers responded to the call. A vehicle parked in the driveway suffered some heat damage.
The Suffolk County Arson Squad is investigating, although at this time the blaze is not considered suspicious in nature, police said.
