Alleged car thief leads police on North Fork car chase

Southold Police caught an alleged car thief Sunday morning after a chase through Cutchogue and Mattituck.
The owner of a 1998 Volvo sedan reported his car was stolen from outside a Mattituck shop just after 10:30 a.m. Soon after, an officer engaged in a traffic stop on Route 48, saw the stolen vehicle. The officer pursued it to Cutchogue, then back to Mattituck on Route 25, where the suspect left the car on Sound Avenue and fled by foot.
Police said Tarell Holloway, 23, of Greenport was apprehended after he was briefly chased on foot. He was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, criminal possession of stolen property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, aggravated unlicensed operation and a number of vehicle and traffic violations.
 He was held overnight at town police headquarters and remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility after his arraignment on September 6.
