Two North Fork residents win $10K lotto prizes

Two North Fork residents have won $10,000 each in lottery prizes, New York State Lottery officials announced Monday.

Jonathan Troyan of Aquebogue purchased his winning Powerball ticket at the Hallmark card store on Old Country Road in Riverhead, lottery officials said. The ticket was for the Dec. 28 drawing last year.

Mr. Troyan, who owns Copper Crafts, a metal fabrication and construction company, just claimed the winning ticket on April 9 because he has been busy with work, he said.

This was Mr. Troyan’s first lottery win.

He said he normally doesn’t play the lottery, but will occasionally pick up a ticket “when the prize gets big.”

“You get that itch and you think you can win,” he said. “Being a little winner is as good as big winner.”

Mr. Troyan said that his winnings break down to about $6,000 after taxes. He and his wife are looking to use the winnings to donate to local charities and organizations.

The chances of winning $10,000 in the Powerball lottery are one in 648,000, Lottery officials said.

A Mattituck woman also won a $10,000 cash prize in a February Win 4 drawing, according to a press release.

Gaitri Reynolds purchased the ticket at the Waldbaum’s on Route 25 and Factory Avenue in Mattituck.

Ms. Reynolds could not be reached for comment.

The Win4 tickets are drawn twice daily and can be “played” multiple ways to win, Lottery officials said.
