Featured Letter: Come out and speak up at Monday’s public hearing

The Heritage at Cutchogue

There will be a public hearing on Monday, Aug. 31, at 6 p.m. in Southold Town Hall before the Planning Board on the high-density development proposed for Southold Town in Cutchogue known as The Heritage. The proposed development would be a separate private “community.”

If Southold Town permits it, it will detract from, and be destructive of, our real community. Anticipated adverse impacts include the local environment, local economy and rural lifestyles.

This will be the first public hearing on this 32-year-old proposal since November 2014, when the Southold Town Board and the Southold Town Planning Board agreed to a Stipulation of Adjournment in Contemplation of Settlement.

In exchange for the developer putting the lawsuit on hold, Southold Town agreed that so far as they are relevant to this proposal it will:

• Not apply local laws #1, #2 and #3 of 2009 to this project;

• Freeze new local legislation on the property where the site plan is proposed for at least three and possibly seven years to provide time for consideration on the proposal;

• Expedite consideration of this proposal for dozens of luxury condos; and

• Refrain from opposing proposed water supply and sewage disposal.

Please come to listen and show you care, and come to speak up and let your representatives know what you want.
