Peconic man injured in crash with street sweeper

Emergency workers responded to a call that a 71-year-old
Peconic man struck a street sweeper on Peconic Lane.

A 71-year-old Peconic resident was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital Tuesday morning after an SUV he was driving collided with a parked street sweeper on Peconic Lane.
Joel Reitman was driving north on Peconic Lane when he reportedly hit the town-owned street sweeper, which was parked in front of the town’s youth center. Mr. Reitman was taken to the hospital by the Southold Fire Department Ambulance Corps after complaining of chest pains.
Also on Tuesday morning, police said an employee of the Soundview Restaurant in Greenport was injured while attempting to cross Route 48 on a bicycle in front of the restaurant. No further information was immediately available.
