WORTH NOTING Swietna muzyka!

In Polish, that means “the music is excellent” — but music is just part of what’s great about this weekend’s 36th annual Polish Town Street Fair and Polka Festival in Riverhead.

The free festival runs Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 21 and 22, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Things kick off with a special 10 a.m. Mass Saturday at St. Isidore, followed by a flag-raising ceremony, a Polish choir performance and a reenactment of a traditional Polish wedding and procession.

The streets of Polish Town USA will be lined with vendors of unique crafts, Polish imports and delicious ethnic foods. There will be a petting zoo, pony rides and carnival rides and amusements.

And, not to forget the entertainment, there will be polka music by DJ Hank and Joe Thomas’ Jolly Men, appearances at the showmobile by the St. Maximilian Kolbe dancers, East End Twirlers, Miss Polish Town USA 2010 and other family-friendly entertainment.

Saturday from 5 p.m. to midnight you can polka those pierogies away under the tent at Polonaise Park ($13 for adults; $5 for children under 12) to music by the John Gora Band and Polka Family and see the Hejnal Polish Folk Dancers. The tent will be open Sunday, too, with free music from noon to 5 p.m.

So come on down … and Witamy!
