Filmed late last year in Southold, “The Romantics” will open in select theaters this week.
An advanced screening of the film, which stars Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel and Academy Award winner Anna Paquin, will serve as the New York City Premiere tonight at the AMC Loews on 19th Street. The movie will open for the public at Regal Union Square on Broadway in New York City beginning Friday. No local release date has been announced, but Paramount Features has said a wider release is scheduled for October.
“The Romantics,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in February, is about a love triangle that reignites when seven friends return to Long Island for a wedding.
Key scenes from the film were shot at Bethany Cemetery and The Old Field Vineyards.
Other notable actors cast in the picture include Candice Bergen, Elijah Wood, Malin Ackerman and Adam Brody.
Kyle Smith of the New York Post gave the film an “A-.” Other critics have not been as kind: Gregory Ellwood of Hitfix awarded the film a “C+” and Variety’s Rob Nelson gave it a “D+.”
