  • Excellent work.

  • Excellent work, but not for $120,000 annual salary and benefits.

  • Overpriced government trash…

  • The system is broken and the People better wise up to what is happening here. Over 60% of the property taxes are for school taxes alone. We need a complete over-haul of how schools are paid for. The Pension system has to be reformed and Superintendent salaries have to be capped.

This has been coming for the past 20 years !! There is no more money left, the taxpayers are broke
and it’s time to stop kicking the can down the Road. !!!! Wake up America !!

  • That’s how you address a 7th grader? You should be ashamed of yourself. A 4% increase will not amount to much for you, but the cuts will hurt these kids for a lifetime. You were given a chance–give them one.

  • Give me a break “Guest”. Long Island teachers are the highest paid in the country, with salaries and benefits rising at a much faster rate than inflation.

You say a 4% rise is just a “little pain”. Every year, it’s another 4%,5%,6%,8% 12% compounding all the previous beyond inflation rises. Most people are spending over $700 a MONTH in property taxes and you just want more and more from working families, with no end in sight, and no additional value for the money.

Take you guilt trip and shove it. 30 years ago educational outcomes were just fine, and teacher salaries and benefits weren’t higher than average HOUSEHOLD incomes (now they far outstrip average household incomes). Adjusting for inflation,. schol taxces were far lower only ten years ago.

If you really cared about “the children”, you’d be demanding that teachers with salaries over $100,000 take a pay freeze for the next 5 years so money could actually be put towards programs for students instead of another payment on a new Mercedes.

  • Well said.

  • New York State is one of only a few that REQUIRES a Masters Degree in order to obtain a teaching licence. How much did yours cost you? Are you still paying it off? What’s that?? You dont have one? Didn’t think so. Being a teacher is the LOWEST paid job where a Masters degree is required…LOOK IT UP! Teachers spend 7 hours a day with YOUR children. How much time do you spend with them? Don’t count the time they are playing video games or watching t.v. or sleeping.

  • Please stop it. The Teachers Unions have destroyed the quality of life here on LI.
Please take a hard look at reality and stop with the CHILDREN BS.

    I have had enough .!!!!

  • the 3 grand you pay in school tax a year is equal to the 3 grand you spend on cigarrettes! Get your priorities straight!

  • Have they?? I didn’t notice… I was too busy eating caviar and driving around the Hamptons in my Bentley. Next year we pick on the cops & firemen? This complaining is cyclical and you’re too ignorant to realize it. Why don’t you worry about the Doctors who charge $300 an office visit only to have you follow up for another 2 weeks later. Or the Insurance companies who don’t care if you’re dying of cancer, they just want their next billion. BLAME teachers…It’s easy to do. “Teacher’s Unions ruined the quality of life on Long Island” …and what have YOU done to improve it? NOTHING!!! because it’s easier for you to hide behind a blog than actually do something besides complain!

  • JJ, the sense of Entitlement has killed the American Dream.
Since 68% of my tax bill is for School Taxes and not doctors bill, I blame the teachers Unions.

  • I do not have a Mercedes. I drive a 1999 Jeep and my husband drives a 2000 Jeep. We do not own house and we live paycheck to paycheck.

  • $15 a day to educate your kids (no matter how many you have). Not a bad deal if you do the math… have you checked babysitter prices? You can’t get one for less than $5 an hour per kid…OR are you one of those whos kids are grown an feel you no longer have to pay school tax?? Someone paid for them and complained about it.

  • Hey J.J.- $15 a day to educate our kids is great if the teacher is actually teaching. What are parents supposed to do when the their child’s teacher tells them- “I’m only here for a paycheck” or they talk about how their baby kept them up all night, or that the cancer their dad is fighting is spreading. What is a parent supposed to do or think when these are the comments that are being made to their 8 year old child, from their teacher, and when the parents confront the principal with these issues, nothing is done except that the teacher suddenly is working in another school in the district. I think teachers should get excellent pay and benefits if they deserve it. A teacher who does not teach, who does not support the students- does not deserve any salary much less a job. This is the problem with this district. There are way too many teachers in the Longwood School District who do not care about teaching or children- they are simply there to collect a paycheck. I have heard this first hand myself from a teacher’s mouth. I have dealt with many Longwood teachers personally who just do not care. But I should. As a single mom, I struggle to make my house payment and monthly expenses as well as my taxes. I should run myself into the ground to pay teachers salaries when they don’t even do their job? We need to get rid of the useless teachers and honor the good ones.

  • What about the 5 superintendents?
