Fire commissioner elections take place tonight
Voters will go to the polls tonight, Tuesday, to fill commissioners’ seats in five Southold fire districts, but only Orient and Cutchogue have contested races.
In Orient, Bob Scott is not seeking reelection. He will be replaced by either William G. Wysocki or Richard Milligan, both volunteer firefighters. Mr. Scott, who is also a town assessor, was elected in 2010 to fill the unexpired term of Joseph Wysocki, who at that time became chief.
In Cutchogue, incumbent Sandy Frieman, the current chairman, is being challenged by Jeff Smith, a former Mattituck-Cutchogue school board member. Both are firefighters.
Mattituck fire commissioner Lloyd Reisenberg is running without opposition, as is Southold’s William Sawicki.
In East Marion incumbent commissioner Lou Blank is not seeking reelection and only one person, Laura Fauteux, is on the ballot.
There is no election for the Greenport FD. That department is part of village government and Village Board members act as commissioners.
Voting takes place in the Orient, East Marion, Southold and Cutchogue firehouses from 6 to 9 p.m. In Mattituck the polls opened at 3 and also close at 9.
