Photos: Farm Bureau celebrates agricultural leaders at gala

The Long Island Farm Bureau hosted its 96th annual awards gala at Polish Hall Saturday to celebrate standout members of the agricultural community.
Mark Zaweski — a fourth generation farmer and owner of MKZ Farms in Jamesport — was honored with the organization’s Amherst Davis Memorial Farmer Citizen of the Year Award for 2014.
The award is presented annually to a bureau member who gives back not only to the agricultural community, but also to the community in which they live and farm.
The group also honored Daniel Gilrein — an entomologist with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County — with its Long Island Farm Bureau Citizen Award for 2014; given annually to a community member whose contributions help the bureau and area growers.
LIFB education chairperson Kristina Sidor also awarded Longwood High School senior James Anson with a scholarship of $1,100 to put toward his education in an agricultural area of study.
