Cops: Southold man hid after skipping out on $97 taxi fare

A 20-year-old Southold man was arrested Monday after he took a taxi from Patchogue to his house and ran away from the cab driver without paying the fare, Southold Town police said.

Vincent Occhiogrosso attempted to avoid paying the $97 fare by hiding in a cabin of a boat located on his property, police said.

Police said he was found in the boat at around 3:45 p.m., arrested and charged with theft of services.

Mr. Occhiogrosso was transported to police headquarters and held overnight for an arraignment.

This isn’t the first time Mr. Occhiogrosso has reportedly hid from the law.

In April, Mr. Occhiogrosso was arrested on a felony burglary charge when police caught him hiding in a crawlspace at his home after he allegedly rummaged through a bureau in someone’s house.

Mr. Occhiogrosso had also been previously charged with driving while under the influence of drugs when police allegedly caught him driving while high on marijuana last October.
