It was a fruitful year for the nearly 300-member Auxiliary benefitting Eastern Long Island Hospital.

Volunteers from the organization Tuesday presented the hospital with a check for $66,000, bringing its total contributions for 2014 up to $378,000.

“This is a banner year for the Auxiliary,” said Paul Connor, hospital president and CEO. “Thanks to the hard work and dedication of its members, the annual Auxiliary contribution continues to climb.”

Auxiliary members contribute about 25,000 hours annually, helping to raise money through different fundraising campaigns and the sale of home goods donated to its Opportunity Shop on Main Street in Greenport.

A renovation and expansion of the Opportunity Shop was completed in 2013, with donations of merchandise and sales on the rise.

The organization is also looking for more volunteers.

“If you are here this winter and want to volunteer a few hours a week, we could really use your help,” said Toni DeMeo, volunteer services coordinator. “A large number of volunteers head for warmer climates in January, February and March.”
