Glow in the dark paint party meets obstacle course races at a funky and colorful fundraising event benefiting the Mattituck-Cutchogue Athletic Booster Club next month.

Called NOFO Glow, the event is a celebration of the new Mattituck High School track, which opened last fall amid overwhelming community support.

Highlights for the event will include obstacle courses, a run/walk on the new track and dance party complete with a DJ and glow in the dark face painting.

NOFO Glow is the first event of its kind for the booster club, said its vice president Jeanine Warns, who came up with the idea.

“I woke up at four in the morning and thought what kind of party would I like to go to?” she said. “I’ve never been to a glow party and that is how I came up with the event.”

Ms. Warns said NOFO Glow is a part of the Mattituck-Cutchogue Athletic Booster Club’s growing effort to engage people in the community of every age.

“What we are really trying to do is create events for all age groups,” Ms. Warns said. “We are trying to do different events throughout the year to engage the entire community.”

The celebration kicks off at 5p.m. on Saturday, May 9, at Mattituck High School.

Then, starting at 6:30 p.m., there will be two obstacle course races, one for elementary school students and the other for middle and high school students. That will be followed by a run/walk around the field and performances by the Mattituck High School select chorus and North Fork Academy of Dance. The school’s NJROTC unit will also conduct a flag ceremony.

Food, shirts and glow items will be for sale throughout the evening, Ms. Warns said.

At 9:30 p.m. the dance party, which is not limited to Mattituck-Cutchogue School District students, begins underneath a tent that will be set up on the field.

Tickets for the evening are $7 general admission, or $5 for students. They are currently available at the Handy Pantry and Love Lane Sweet Shoppe in Mattituck, and Cutchogue East Elementary School.

The first 100 people to sign up get a free T-shirt, though Ms. Warns said they are going fast.

The rain date is scheduled for May 15.
