Playoff brackets released for boys, girls soccer

The defending Class B state champion Mattituck boys soccer team will open the playoffs Wednesday, according to the brackets released by Section XI

The Tuckers are seeded No. 2 and will play at home against No. 3 Wyandanch at 2 p.m.

Mattituck will have its work cut out to win a sixth consecutive county title. The Tuckers, 12-4 overall, went 1-1 against Wyandanch this season, losing the most recent matchup on Oct. 5, 3-1. The No. 1 seed in the bracket is undefeated Southampton (16-0). Southampton will play No. 4 Center Moriches in the other semifinal.

The county finals will be played Oct. 31.

In Class C, the Southold First Settlers are the No. 1 seed and will play in the county finals at noon on Oct. 31. The First Settlers will await the winner between Pierson/Bridgehampton and Stony Brook.

Southold (13-2-1) will be playing for a three-peat after winning the last two Class C titles.

The First Settlers went 4-0 in the regular season against Pierson and Stony Brook.

In the girls playoffs, Mattituck was seeded No. 4 seed and will being the playoffs Wednesday on the road at top-seeded Center Moriches.

Mattituck (7-7-1 overall) went 0-2 in the regular season against the Red Devils (12-1-1), losing the games by a combined score of 9-2.
