Mary ‘Marion’ A. Fiedler

UPDATE (Thursday, 11:42 a.m.): The family of Marion Fiedler has decided to cancel the wake and funeral services originally planned for this coming Friday and Saturday. The family met this morning with Pastor Johnson from St. Peter’s Lutheran church and they want to take precautionary measures given the recent rise of the COVID-19 virus. The family and the church are thinking of the elderly population and want everyone who loved and knew Marion to feel safe. The family will have a private burial and plans to have a memorial service later this year.”

Obituary:

Mary “Marion” A. Fiedler of Greenport died at home March 8, 2020. She was 90.

She was born March 29, 1929, to Amelia Koch and Eric Zwinkel in Hoboken, N.J.

Ms. Fiedler earned an associate degree in nursing from Suffolk County Community College and was employed as an RN at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport for over 20 years.

She married her husband, Ludwig, in October 1957 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Greenport.

Ms. Fiedler was an active member of St. Peter’s and volunteered for Adult Literacy Services.

She enjoyed using her nursing skills in retirement to help members of the church and community that needed care. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Ms. Fiedler was predeceased by her husband in 1988 and her siblings, Erik Zwinkel, Inga de la Torre and Helen Reinhardt. She is survived by her daughters, Chrystle Fiedler of Atlanta, Ga., and Valerie Boergesson of Southold, N.Y.; and grandchildren Jacob Boergesson of West Haven, Conn., and Alex Boergesson of Southold.
