Six injured after pickup truck collides with limo bus in Southold
A collision between a pickup truck and a limo bus in Southold on Saturday afternoon sent six people to local hospitals with minor injuries, according to the Southold Police Department.
The crash occurred about 1:30 at the intersection of County Route 48 and Youngs Avenue as heavy rain lashed the North Fork, a police official said.
According to Southold police, Anne Pizzicara, 89, of Southold, was driving a 2001 Toyota Tacoma westbound on County Route 48 when she attempted to turn left onto Youngs Avenue and failed to yield to an eastbound 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter limousine bus driven by Darryl Atkinson, 58, of Uniondale.
Both drivers and four passengers from the Sprinter were transported to area hospitals for evaluation of minor injuries. Three other passengers were checked out at the scene before declining medical transport.
No charges were filed.
Traffic on busy County Route 48 backed up in both directions while police investigated the crash and cleared the roadway.
The Southold, Greenport and Cutchogue fire departments responded to the scene.
