Sports roundup: Mattituck, Southold boys soccer both earn shutout victories
BOYS SOCCER
Sept. 10: Mattituck 2, Babylon 0
Senior midfielder Andy Mancia scored a goal and set up Jose Chapeton’s tally as the Tuckers remained unbeaten (2-0-0, 2-0-0) over the Panthers (1-3-0, 1-1-0) in Suffolk County League VI. Senior goalkeeper Cris Cuellar made three saves en route to his first shutout of the campaign.
Mattituck is ranked second in Class B in the New York State Sportswriter Association poll and in the Suffolk coaches poll.
Newsday named Cuellar one of the top 100 boys soccer players on Long Island. “Cuellar, who has drawn Division I interest, had seven wins and six shutouts, and he had three goals and three assists — as a goalkeeper,” Newsday wrote. “The fourth-year starter is outstanding on free kicks.”
Sept. 14: Southold 2, Bayport-Blue Point 0
Brendan Boyle and Cristian Gomez scored in the second half to lift the Settlers (2-0-1, 2-0-0) over the Phantoms (2-2, 2-2) at home in League VI. Jefferson Moreno and Indie Riddell added assists. Keeper Grady Brigham, who hasn’t conceded a goal this season, made eight saves for his third clean sheet.
On Sept. 10, Jefferson Moreno and Elmer Velasquez found the net in the second half in Southold’s 2-0 win at Bridgehampton (0-3-0). Brigham had three saves.
Sept. 14: Southampton 6, Greenport 2
The Porters dropped to 1-2-1 overall and to 1-1-0 in League VI with the loss. Southampton improved to 3-0-0 overall and 1-0 in the league.
On Sept. 8, Juan Vivas Flores recorded a hat-trick for Greenport in its 9-0 home-opening win over Bridgehampton (0-2-0, 0-2-0). Jesus Rios contributed two goals and an assist. Jordan Martinez added two goals. Luis Morales finished with a goal and two assists. Goalkeeper Walter Tzun Zarate made three saves.
Morales scored and added an assist in an 8-2 defeat at Elwood John Glenn (3-0) on Sept. 10. Zarate recorded three saves.
GIRLS SOCCER
Sept. 10: Harborfields 4, MSG 0
Goalkeeper Hunter Mackey produced nine saves for MSG (1-3, 0-3) in its loss at Harborfields (4-0, 3-0) in Division III action. Molly Walsh paced the hosts with two goals.
On Sept. 8, MSG dropped a 2-0 home decision to Sayville (3-0-1, 3-0-0) as Mackey finished with another nine-save performance. Sophia Vario tallied a goal and an assist for the Golden Flash (4-0, 3-0).
GIRLS FIELD HOCKEY
Sept. 10: Shoreham-Wading River 2, Greenport/Southold/Mattituck 0
The Porters (0-3-0, 0-3-0) were shut out for the third consecutive time, in a League II match against the Wildcats (1-2, 1-2). Goaltender Alison Erwin kept the visitors in the encounter with eight saves. Mariella Isgro and Julia Corso scored for Shoreham.
GIRLS TENNIS

The Settlers (2-3, 2-3) lost a non-league contest to Floyd (4-2, 2-1) at home.
On Sept. 10, Southold dropped a 7-0 Division IV decision to Shoreham-Wading River (4-1, 4-0).
