BOYS SOCCER

The Settlers played to a scoreless draw in their season opener, a non-league game, at Mount Sinai.

Sept. 8: Mattituck-Center Moriches rivalry continues

The longest and arguably the most intense Suffolk County rivalry between Mattituck and Center Moriches will celebrate its 90th anniversary when the two rivals meet at the Tuckers’ home field in a Suffolk County League IV match on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 4:30 pm. ET.

The Red Devils posted a 1-0 win in the first meeting in 1936. The Tuckers prevailed in the 1937 county championship game, 1-0. Unlike in other seasons, the schools will meet only once in league play because of a schedule change. They can meet again in the Class B playoffs.

GIRLS SOCCER

Aug. 31: M/S/G 3, Westhampton 1

Devin Stanton tallied twice as Mattituck/Southold/Greenport scored all its goals in the second half in the non-league season opener at Westhampton. Charlotte Reiniger contributed a goal and an assist. Senior goalkeeper Hunter Mackey made 15 saves.

FOOTBALL

Sept. 4: Greenport/Southold/Mattituck returns to varsity

After a year’s absence from Suffolk County League IV, the Porters return to varsity action at Hampton Bays on Friday, Sept. 4 at 6 p.m. Greenport will host Elwood John Glenn in its home opener on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Greenport’s last varsity game was a 42-14 loss to Bayport-Blue Point in the league playoffs on Nov. 8, 2024. The team’s last win was a 46-8 home triumph over Southampton on Oct. 25, 2024.

Even before the season’s opening kickoff, the Porters will be assured of two victories as Port Jefferson (away on Sept. 19) and Amityville (Homecoming on Oct. 30) were forced to cancel their respective seasons due to low turnouts.

HOMECOMINGS: Mattituck, Southold, Greenport

Mattituck will hold its Homecoming on Friday, Sept. 25.  A soccer doubleheader will be featured. The Tuckers boys will take on Greenport at 4:30 p.m., with the MSG girls following against Rocky Point at 6:30 p.m. Other events at the schools are the girls volleyball squad vs. Port Jefferson at 4:30 p.m., and the girls tennis team vs. Shoreham-Wading River at 4:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Sept. 26, Mattituck will host the first annual Kelly Pickering Memorial Volleyball Tournament at 9 a.m. The Tuckers will compete against Greenport/Southold, Riverhead, Shoreham-Wading River, Miller Place, Southampton, and Shelter Island.

Southold is set for Friday, Oct. 2. The Settlers will host three events – girls tennis vs. Pierson/Bridgehampton at 4:30 p.m., MSG girls soccer vs. Miller Place at 5 p.m., and boys soccer vs. Pierson at 7 p.m.

Because Amityville was forced to cancel its football season, Greenport’s Oct. 30 Homecoming date was canceled. The school is seeking October dates as a replacement.
