Sports roundup: Mattituck soccer secures two dominant wins
BOYS SOCCER
Oct. 5: Mattituck 8, Ross 1
Junior Connor Searl scored four goals in a match for the second time in three days for the Tuckers (9-2-1, 7-2-0) in a League VI road win over Ross (0-5, 0-5). Charlie Carter and Franklyn Secaida each added a goal and an assist. Goalkeeper Cris Cuellar scored a goal and made two saves. Kyle Petrowski also had a goal. Dylan Palencia contributed two assists.
Cuellar saved a penalty kick late in the match to preserve a 2-1 home win over Riverhead Charter (4-7, 3-4) on Oct. 2, one of his five saves. Rafa Finnerty and Jose Chapeton scored for Mattituck, and Charlie Carter and Connor Searl recorded assists.
On Oct. 3, Searl scored four goals, three assisted by Carter, in a 6-1 non-league win at Miller Place. Secaida and Axel Kellershon also found the net. Cuellar produced three more saves and assisted on a goal. Chapeton and Wilmer Giron also set up goals.
FOOTBALL
Oct. 2: Wyandanch 32, Greenport/Southold/Mattituck 6
Quarterback Brayden Kruk and Noah Foster connected on a nine-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter for the host Porters (1-4-, 1-4) in the Suffolk County League IV game. Wyandanch (2-2) grabbed a 22-0 halftime lead. Dominick Correnthi ran for two TDs and a two-point conversion.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Oct. 5: Greenport/Southold 3, Shoreham-Wading River 1
After dropping the first set to the Wildcats, 25-18, the Porters (9-2, 4-2) captured the next three on the road. They won 25-18, 25-23, 25-17. Lyla Zablotny registered nine kills, and Riley Whitecavage had eight. Lauryn Bednoski finished with 16 assists, and Leanna Zugmeyer had 4. Delphine Garcia added 12 digs.
On Sept. 30, Greenport (9-2, 4-2) lost at Port Jefferson (15-1, 8-0), 25-11, 25-14, and 25-16. Zablotny finished with seven kills, while Abigail Bednoski added six kills and five digs. Lauryn Bednoski recorded 11 assists, seven digs, and two aces. Whitecavage had 10 digs.
Oct. 5: Miller Place 3, Mattituck 2
The Tuckers (7-4, 4-2) lost in five sets in League VIII. Brynn Pawlowski finished with 17 kills and 12 blocks. Riley Richert contributed 13 kills, seven digs, and five aces. Lizzie Fohrkolb collected 26 digs and six aces. Hannah McCleery added 20 assists, and Mallory Meier had 11 digs.
On Sept. 29, Mattituck dropped the first game to Pierson/Bridgehampton, 27-25, but rebounded to win the next three sets, 26-24, 25-17, and 27-19, in a non-league victory. Richert led Mattituck with nine kills, 14 digs, and three aces. Fohrkolb contributed 21 digs, and McCleery had 13 assists and 10 digs.
Two days later on Oct. 1, the Tuckers won the first set against Babylon (4-5, 2-2), 26-24, but lost the second, 25-21. They then won the final two, 25-18 and 25-18. Pawlowski paced the hosts with 14 kills, three digs, nine blocks, and three aces. Laurel Richards added seven kills and nine digs; McCleery had 16 assists and five digs. Fohrkolb finished with 24 digs, and Meier had 11.
GIRLS SOCCER
Oct. 5: Kings Park 3, MSG 1
Madison Smith scored MSG’s (2-8-1, 1-8-1) lone goal in the first half in the Division III match. The Kingsmen (3-6-2, 3-6-1) tallied twice in the second half. Goalkeeper Hunter Mackey finished with eight saves.
On Oct. 2, Violet Dvorsky registered a hat-trick for Miller Place (4-7-1, 4-6-0) in the Division III encounter in the first game of a Homecoming doubleheader at Southold. Sophomore Sophia Boyle tallied for MSG (2-7-1, 1-7-1) in the first half. In the second game, her brother, senior Brendan Boyle, scored twice for the Southold boys in a 5-0 win over Pierson. Mackey made eight saves.
FIELD HOCKEY
Oct. 5: Smithtown West 4, Greenport/Southold/Mattituck 1
McKenna Grattan scored a first-half goal for the Porters (0-10, 0-10) in the match at West (6-5, 6-5) in Division II. Isabella Chisari had two goals and an assist for the hosts.

Teams from Greenport/Southold, Riverhead, Shelter Island, Southampton, Center Moriches, Hampton Bays, Miller Place, and Mattituck will participate.
