The third annual Out Run Rett 5K was held last Saturday in New Suffolk. Out Run Rett raises funds for promising research involving gene therapy and honors two young Southold residents, Maren and Rachel, who suffer from the disorder. READ

Michael Brown’s sister, Karre Brown, and mother, Denise Wilson, hold a picture of the late Greenport resident from his time in high school. Mr. Brown, who had cerebral palsy, was killed in Northampton when his car was struck by a bus in 2010. A scholarship in his name will now benefit a local student with a disability. The Southold Athletic Association held its sixth annual 5K in Southold on Saturday to benefit the North Fork Parish Outreach Food Pantry in Greenport.

Though family and friends have been organizing a fundraiser in memory of the late Michael Brown for years, they decided to switch things up this year, organizing the Miles for Mike 5K Walk/Run, which kicked off today at Greenport High School.
