Baseball: Porters drop doubleheader; end year 5-15

KNIGHTS 10, PORTERS 9; KNIGHTS 6, PORTERS 1 (6 INNINGS)

The Greenport High School baseball team closed out its season on Friday, dropping both ends of a Suffolk County League IX doubleheader to host Smithtown Christian.

Despite senior Michael Reed’s grand slam in the second inning, the Porters lost to Smithtown Christian, 10-9, in the opener. Seth Connell’s run-scoring single snapped a 9-9 deadlock.

In the second game, ace right-hander Dylan Prince hurled a four-hitter and struck out nine batters en route to a 6-1 win that was called after six innings due to diminished light. Pitcher Matt Dibble drove in the lone Greenport run in the sixth inning.

Smithtown Christian is 14-6 overall and in the league. Greenport finished the season at 5-15, 5-15.
