Good Samaritans save Canadian man in L.I. Sound

A Canadian man was whose dinghy flipped over in the Long Island Sound was saved by a pair of Good Samaritans around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

According to Southold Police, Arman Komurcuoglu, 69, was hanging on the side of his boat in the water about 200 feet from shore when they arrived along with Town Bay Constables and Greenport Fire Department.

Two Greenport residents — Helen Bashian, 51, and Virej Copuroglullari, 57 — each rowed from shore with their kayaks and towed the man to shore.

Mr. Komurcuoglu, from Laval, Quebec, was treated at the scene by Greenport Fire Department and released.
