Motorcyclist hits deer on Route 48

A motorcyclist had to be airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment Sunday night after hitting a deer on Route 48 in Peconic.

Vincent Buscemi, 28, of Franklin Square was driving a 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle east on Route 48 in Peconic on Sunday at 11:19 p.m. when he hit a deer that had run across the road, police said.

Members of the Southold Fire Department responded and treated Mr. Buscemi at the scene, police said. He was airlifted by Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook for further treatment, police said. Mr. Buscemi’s condition was unknown at presstime.
