Cops: Port Jeff man caught driving drunk

A Port Jefferson man was arrested for drunken driving after he was seen speeding in Mattituck Wednesday night, Southold Town police said.

Kenneth Cooney, 54, was stopped by police while traveling on County Road 48 about 7:30 p.m., according to a police report. The officer found the man had been drinking and arrested him at the scene, police said.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and a traffic violation for speeding, according to the report. Mr. Cooney was taken to police headquarters and held for morning arraignment, police said.
