Photos, video: Greenport’s restored 1933 fire truck

1_Greenport Fire Department truck restored

A dedication ceremony was held at the Greenport Fire Department on Sunday to celebrate the restoration of a truck built in 1933.

Dozens of people gathered at the fire department to see the unveiling of Ole 33, the restored fire truck that made its public debut at the Memorial Day parade.

While the most recent restoration effort officially began two years ago, it’s been a labor of love for Bob Jester since 1965.

The first fire the truck ever responded to was at St. Agnes R.C. Church on Front Street. Virtually all the truck’s parts are authentic to 1933 and the estimated cost of the restoration is about $25,000.
