Three Greenport clerks arrested in underage drinking sting

An underage drinking sting in Greenport by state police netted three arrests on Sunday.

Employees at the 7-Eleven on Main Rd, Claudio’s Wines & Liquors and Layyah Market on Front Street all sold alcohol to an undercover agent, police said.

Layyah Market clerk Sindy Castellanos, 18, of Greenport; 7-Eleven employee Moses Gonzalez, 19, of Greenport; and Claudio’s employee Adam Salvatierra, 20, of Mattituck were all charged with unlawful dealing with a child and prohibited sale of an alcoholic beverage.

Seven other businesses were targeted by state troopers and were in compliance with the law: TSM Grocery, Greenport Wines & Spirits, Chasmur Supermarket, Patriot Gas, Zeynaz Village Grocer, JB Liquor, Mr. Roberts/GMS Grocery.

Sunday’s sting was the second time in less than a year that a Layyah Market employee was arrested for selling alcohol to underage customers. In October, a 27-year-old clerk sold a 12-pack of Coors Light to the agent during a similar sting, police said at the time.

The clerks — none of whom had been arrested before for selling alcohol to minors — were released with a later date in Southold Town court.
