The cycle continues.

For a fourth straight year, Mattituck saw its high school boys soccer season come to an end with a playoff loss to Center Moriches. Similar to Mattituck’s pair of 1-0 losses to the Red Devils during the regular season, Wednesday’s Suffolk County Class B semifinal was a tight, defensive battle, full of drama and, in the end, pain and disappointment for the Tuckers. During the preseason, the big issue with the Mattituck/Southold/Greenport girls soccer team was who would take over the goalkeeper position. That matter has long since been resolved and isn’t a question any more.

Shorter, a Mattituck High School sophomore, emerged as the number one (although she wears No. 0). She has started the great majority of matches and has impressed. READ

The first quarter Friday night was easily the best quarter the Greenport/Southold/Mattituck football team had played this season. By holding Hampton Bays’ bull of a running back, Quinn Smith, to seven yards on four carries, the Greenport defense forced the Baymen to punt on their first two possessions and later turn the ball over on downs on their third.

It was encouraging stuff, a promising beginning for the homecoming crowd at Dorrie Jackson Memorial Field to behold. READ
