Joan M. Beresford

Joan M. Beresford of Mattituck died March 27 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. She was 76.

She was born Jan. 21, 1936, in Brooklyn to George and Muriel Maloney. She married William H. Beresford on Aug. 13, 1966, in Lake Success, N.Y.

Ms. Beresford was executive secretary to Assemblyman Robert Wertz, who represented the 6th Assembly District for 32 years.

She was an avid skiier, according to family members, and enjoyed the beach, swimming and playing tennis.

Ms. Beresford is survived by her husband; her sons, Harry, of Texas, and Kevin, of Mattituck; her siblings, William Maloney of New Jersey, Michael Maloney of Florida and Carol Bertrand of Glen Head; and two grandchildren.

Interment took place March 31 at Cutchogue Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at Community Christian Fellowship in Mattituck. Arrangements were handled by Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue.
