Donna Stephenson Tweedie

Donna Stephenson Tweedie of Orient died Dec. 16 at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport. She was 67 years old.

She was born Jan. 15, 1945, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Katherine (Burnham) and Donald Alford Stephenson. She earned a B.A. in anthropology from Adelphi University, an M.A. in speech pathology from Long Island University and also attended the University of Hawaii.

Retired from her job as an ESL teacher in Alexandria (Va.) City Public Schools, she had spent every summer of her life in Orient and became a full-time resident there 12 years ago. She was a lifelong member of the Orient Yacht Club.

Family members said she considered herself a naturalist and enjoyed bird-watching from her home. She also enjoyed painting, crocheting and playing the cello, they said.

Ms. Tweedie is survived by her sons, David and Mark, and was predeceased by her brother, William Stephenson III.

Arrangements were handled by Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A service will be scheduled at a future date.

Donations may be made to the North Fork Animal Welfare League, 269 Peconic Lane, Peconic, NY 11958 or Eastern Long Island Hospital, 201 Manor Place, Greenport, NY 11944.
