Longtime Southold resident Louise Katherine Klos, age 93, died peacefully on Jan. 10, 2013, at San Simeon by the Sound nursing facility in Greenport, N.Y.
Louise was born Jan. 30, 1919, in Greenport, the daughter of John Oliver Drumm and Louise Tillinghast.
She graduated from Greenport High School, where she developed an appreciation for and lifelong love of reading. Her niece, Darlene Pacholk, said she had an amazing memory for trivia. Louise was employed by Hazeltine Electronics in Riverhead.
In addition to her work, she also thoroughly enjoyed cooking for family and friends. Louise’s family was her greatest passion and delight, and they adored her in return. When her children were young she could often be seen chauffeuring a carload of children to the movies or other events. She was widely known by her children’s friends for her kindness, patience and generous heart.
One of Louise’s fondest memories from her childhood was of a time she attended a matinee at the Greenport movie theater and won a raffle that provided her with the means to go on her senior trip to Washington and have electricity installed in her family’s home.
Louise is survived by three sisters, Deborah Barrett, Betty (Theresa) Owens and Marie Dinizio; three children, Frank Klos (Lois), Dorothy Sims (Daniel) and Robert Klos (Barbara); and four grandchildren, Michael Sims, Eric Klos, Kerry Tyler and Brian Klos. She also has five great-grandchildren: Kendall Sims, Lanie and Lexi Klos and Slade and Hudson Tyler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Klos; two sisters, Jean Konarski and Edith Van Sickle; and two brothers, William and John Drumm.
Visiting hours took place Jan. 14 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Thomas Murray at St. Agnes Church in Greenport on Jan. 15, and burial followed at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cutchogue, N.Y.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Southold Fire Department and San Simeon by the Sound in Greenport. Louise’s family wishes to extend their gratitude for the excellent care and support provided to Louise over the years and in her final days.
