To say Chris North maintains a busy schedule would be an understatement.

The 22-year-old Greenport resident is a member of Southold’s Anti-Bias Task Force and recently joined the town’s Democratic committee. He also attends Suffolk County Community College, where he was elected in June to serve as student trustee, a position held by just one person in the county each year.

Cadet honored for saving family from burning bus

When 16-year-old Joseph Saporita saw flames begin to spark in the runaway bus he and 16 family members were traveling in, he noticed how scared his younger cousins were.

As the bus attempted to stop along the Long Island Expressway, the Southold High School junior, a member of the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps program, knew he had to be brave and stay focused. READ

Two students from the Southold-Mattituck-Greenport Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps, known as NJROTC, have been selected as this year’s top cadets by the New York State Department of the American Legion.  (more…)
