Mr. Stefferson was born in New York City on Aug. 25, 1918, to William and Sophie (née Mikanik) Stefferson. He served in the United States Army during World War II and later enjoyed a long career as a photo engraver with Master Eagle Photo Engraving in New York City.
Prior to moving to the North Fork 17 years ago, he had lived in Coram and, for many years, in New Hyde Park.
Predeceased by his wife, Florence P. Stefferson, on Aug. 2, 2003, he is survived by his son and his wife, Robert Jr. and Lori Stefferson of Marathon, N.Y.; his daughter and her husband, Marilyn and Dr. Philip Centonze of Baiting Hollow; and four grandchildren, Dara Centonze, Leah Centonze, Robby Gallerani and Kristy Gallerani.
The family received friends Dec. 20 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 21 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church in Mattituck by Monsignor Joseph W. Staudt. Interment, with military honors, was at Calverton National Cemetery.
