Joseph L. Betty

Joseph L. Betty, age 67, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2011, in Sebring, Fla.

He was born in Billerica, Massachusetts, on July 15, 1943, to Philip A. and Bertha C. (Dubois) Betty.

He was a Jet Engine Mechanic for the Military. He was honorably discharged from both the U.S. Air Force, having served in Italy, Japan, and Vietnam, and the New York Air National Guard, having served at the 106th Air Rescue Group in Long Island, New York.

After retirement he worked in small home renovations and was a detailed, creative miniature hobbyist. He was an active member of Tanglewood Community Church. He was a resident of Sebring since 2004, coming from Peconic, New York.

Mr. Betty is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carol Lynn Betty, of Sebring; his daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Thomas Hunt of Massachusetts; his son, Joel Betty of Connecticut; a godson, Justin Simoneau; and his granddaughter, Ashley Betty of Connecticut. He is also survived by two sisters, Janie Simoneau of Avon Park and Cindy Stewart-Stealy of New Hampshire, and a beloved niece, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services with Military Honors were held on Friday, January 7, 2011, at 4 p.m. at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home in Sebring, with the Rev. Ken Thoreson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tanglewood Veteran’s Club.
