Frances K. Demarest
Frances King Demarest died Nov. 17, 2012, at Jewish Home Lifecare in New York City. She was 89 years old.
She was born in Orient on Feb. 27, 1923, to Edwin and Fanny (Case) King. Fran lived in Orient most of her life. She was married for 59 years to Harrison M. Demarest Jr. of Orient until his death in 2000.
She was employed at USDA Plum Island for 35 years. She was a member of Orient Congregational Church, where she taught Sunday school, was active in the Women’s Fellowship Group and participated in many other activities. She also belonged to the Orient Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her husband, Harrison, Fran was predeceased by her four sisters, Gertrude Reeves, Vera Wilson, Edwina Gorman and Peggy Baker. She is survived by her daughters, Georgiana Lanza (Anthony) and Carolyn Gallagher (James, deceased); a grandson, Sean Gallagher (Amy); and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Orient Congregational Church, P.O. Box 425, Orient, NY 11957 or the Orient Fire Department, P.O. Box 130, Orient, NY 11957.
A memorial service for Fran will be held in the spring, at a date to be announced later.
Arrangements were under the care of Horton-Mathie Funeral Home, Greenport.
