Cops: Greenport man caught with marijuana, had warrant

A 29-year-old Greenport man was cited for possession of marijuana after he was seen by police throwing what later determined to be marijuana on the ground, according to a Southold Town police press release.

Police said he also had an outstanding arrest warrant from Southampton Town.

Police say a cop spotted Karon Grant throwing the “objects” on Third Street in Greenport about 6:40 p.m. Sunday. The things Mr. Grant was allegedly throwing were a “green leafy substance” that tested positive for marijuana, according to the statement. Mr. Grant was arrested at the scene and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

He was released from Southold Town police custody, but taken to Southampton Town police headquarters to be arrested on the active warrant, police said.

Correction: In a previous version of this article, Karon Grant was incorrectly referred to as a female.
