A motorcyclist was killed in an alleged hit-and-run on Main Road in Southold on Monday night.
Rufino Tojil-Ambrocio, 42, of Greenport, was riding east near Port of Egypt Marina around 6:04 p.m. when a westbound Honda Civic crossed into his lane and struck him, according to Southold Town police.
Police arrested the Civic’s driver, Jose Perez-Perez, 58, also of Greenport, on a felony charge of leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
An officer heading to the crash spotted the badly damaged car driving away from the area and pulled it over, police said. Mr. Perez-Perez showed no signs of impairment during field sobriety tests, according to police.
Mr. Tojil-Ambrocio was unresponsive when officers arrived. Southold Fire Department rescuers treated him and took him to Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
