Joe McInnis’ eighth-grade science fair project has come a long way. 

After showing promise as a science student, Joe was urged to look for a challenging project to work on by Bob Jester of Greenport, a retired Riverhead High School science teacher. That friendship led to the then 14-year-old’s connection with retired Plum Island veterinary pathologist Doug Gregg.  READ

Next month, they’ll share the graduation stage.

Identical twins Jacob and Xavier Kahn have been named Greenport High School’s valedictorian and salutatorian. The duo will toss their caps in the air with the Class of 2019 on Sunday, June 23.

Beginning this week, Greenport High School students will have access to fresh fruits and vegetables right next to the school’s cafeteria.

On Monday, Greenport unveiled the school district’s student-constructed aquaponics system, a unit of PVC pipes, water flow, and LED lights that operate as a garden inside the school building. READ

Greenport student Melody Silie, 16, said her heart was racing before she and her classmates entered the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City Dec. 5. One of her dreams, she said, was to see Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, “Hamilton” — and it came true. READ
