Sports roundup: Tuckers girls’ lax posts first loss of season

Girls Lacrosse

March 31: Mount Sinai 10, Mattituck/Greenport/Southold 4

The Tuckers (2-1) had their two-game winning streak to start the campaign snapped. There were no details available for this Division II match.

Senior midfielder Gianna Calise scored two goals and assisted on two others as she recorded her 200th career point in an 8-5 win over Longwood in a non-league match on March 24. Senior midfielder Page Kellershon paced Mattituck with a hat-trick and one assist. Ellie McKenna contributed two goals, senior attack-midfielder Olivia Zehil one. Senior attack Grace Quinn assisted on three goals. Goalie Hunter Mackey made seven saves.

Two days later, on March 26, the Tuckers broke open a 6-6 halftime by outscoring archrival and host Babylon, 7-2, in the final half en route to a 13-8 Division II triumph. Kellershon led the way again with four goals and two assists. Sophomore attack Riley Richert and Quinn collected three goals apiece. Senior attack Claire McKenzie scored two goals, Calise one. Mackey was called on to make five saves.


Baseball

March 31: Mattituck 4, Shoreham-Wading River 2

Senior Tyler Brown won the Tuckers’ first game of the Suffolk County League VII season, striking out nine and allowing only one run in six innings as Mattituck graduate Joe Tardif won his first game as baseball coach. Senior Mike Buckley recorded the save. Eddie Meier went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Freshman Crosby Palmeri also went 2-for-3 and scored twice in the final game of the three-game series.

Mattituck dropped the first two games of the series, 6-2 and 12-3, on March 27 and 28, respectively.

March 28: Hampton Bays 12, Southold 11

The Settlers lost their opening two contests of the League VIII season, dropping a pair of one-run defeats. They lost at Hampton Bays, 6-5, in their season opener on March 27.


Girls Track and Field

March 30: Mattituck 63, Center Moriches 61

The Tuckers opened their season with a pair of victories. They also defeated Ross, 80-20, on March 27. No other details were available.


Boys Track and Field

March 31: Southold/Greenport 85, Southampton 42

The Settlers started their campaign with two big wins. They also downed host Center Moriches, 91-43, on March 27.
