Gladys Randall lived alone in apartment F-55 at Driftwood Cove in Greenport. She was 69 and used a wheelchair. She had no known close ties with family, but a health aide would help her with household tasks throughout the week.

On Feb. 3, 1993, the aide discovered Ms. Randall strangled in her apartment; her purse was found empty in a dumpster nearby.  READ

With Jordan Fonseca hobbled by an ailing ankle, Myles Murray figured he would see a little more playing time than usual Saturday, but he couldn’t have foreseen the impact he would have on the game.

In the alphabet soup that is the Suffolk County boys basketball tournament, Greenport reached the end in the Class BCD final, no small thanks to CM — as in Center Moriches. READ

Two days after winning the Class C county championship, the Greenport boys basketball team faced Class D winner Bridgehampton in the Section XI Tournament Monday afternoon at Suffolk County Community College in Selden. The Porters won the non-elimination game 67-41 to advance to play the winner of Class B, either No. 1 Center Moriches or No. 2 Babylon. READ

The Greenport boys basketball team won its first county title since 2010 Sunday afternoon by defeating The Stony Brook School, 71-41, at Suffolk Community College in Selden.

The 20-2 Porters will play Nassau County champion East Rockaway on March 6.

Late in the second quarter, Jordan Fonseca dropped in a three-point shot from the right wing, promptly did an about-face and executed a proper bow to a section of cheering Greenport fans.

After the game was over, Fonseca and his teammates on the Greenport High School boys basketball team could have taken a collective bow, but didn’t. The cheers rained down, regardless, and for good reason: The Porters are county champions. READ
