Greenport High School christened its new-look gym in style Tuesday night. Not only is there a new floor on Coach Al Court, which will be dedicated to former Porters coach Al Edwards on Dec. 20, but there are also snazzy new purple bleachers with the letters “GHS” spelled out in gold.

But what Greenport may have liked best of all was the harassing, pressure defense it applied in its 86-31 season-opening win over Bishop McGann-Mercy. The Porters’ swarming defense, Ahkee Anderson’s second career triple-double and a career-high 23 points from Jaxan Swann all contributed to the non-league blowout. READ

The Greenport High School boys basketball team made a tremendous leap last season, rising from a 4-14 record the season before to winning the League VIII championship, reaching the Suffolk County Class C final and finishing with a 14-8 mark. That’s quite a jump.

Coach Ev Corwin believes the Porters have another big jump in them as a new season beckons. READ

This Thanksgiving, volunteers will dedicate their time to making sure everyone on the North Fork has somewhere to spend the holiday.

Members of First Universalist Church of Southold will be serving lunch around 1 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Southold, continuing a tradition that dates back about 30 years.
